Sunset Bistro:
Sunset Bistro Stresses Original Recipes and Community Involvement
“Sunset Bistro is a restaurant with all original recipes and a relaxed atmosphere. We opened in April 2015 but have just received our liquor license,” Brott said. The menu offers vegetarian, vegan, and meat lover’s choices. They also offer gluten free and dairy substitutes.
“The food is always made fresh daily. We have very little freezer space,” assistant kitchen manager Bryan Farnsworth said.
Prudy allows the chefs in the kitchen the freedom to show creativity. When the restaurant first opened she released menu items in stages to make sure that everything ran smoothly.
“Since I have worked in the restaurant business for so long, it truly is a dream come true to operate my own bistro with helpful efforts from family and my staff,” Brott said. Sunset Bistro is a family friendly environment. Prudy’s mother, Raye Newlove Brott is the familiar face of the bistro, considering she makes the cake of the day.
Beyond the restaurant, Brott, her family and staff prioritize giving back to the community. “My father was a Vietnam veteran and he passed away last December due to problems from Agent Orange. In cooperation with my brothers business, Broadwing Tattoo, we have held several fundraisers for veterans,” Brott said.
In the last half of 2015 the Brott family raised $12,000 for veterans. The family partners with organizations to help find houses and supply veterans housing deposits.
“Due to housing deposit prices and our fundraisers we were able to provide housing deposits for 75 veterans,” Brott said. Besides helping out the veterans, Prudy involves Sunset Bistro with the BGSU campus. She attends community events while helping out BGSU organizations. “We fed the volleyball team their entire season, and are always willing to help out the students who are apart of the community,” Brott said.
The community has been extremely supportive of Sunset Bistro. Brott believes this is all due to the family friendly, unique atmosphere and food offered. “I am continuously amazed at how Sunset Bistro is a new business, yet Prudy is so giving to our community. It truly is a great place to work for. The Brott family is so giving and supportive of the community that in return the community welcomes us,” Farnsworth said.
